With many people searching for information about the registry, you really need to be sure what this part of your system is, and how to fix it… before trying to do anything with it. The problem is that since the registry is such an important part of your computer, you can cause a lot of damage on it. This is something which even the most experienced of computer technicians and have had issues with, and its important that you are able to fix it in the best way.

The registry is basically a database inside Windows which stores all your settings and information about your system. Everything from your latest emails, to your login details, to your desktop wallpaper are all kept in this database, and allows your system to quickly load up all your personalized details for your system each time you use your computer.

Unfortunately, the registry is actually used so much that it’s prone to becoming damaged and broken, resulting in your system being unable to recall many important settings that it needs to function. This is a big problem which can cause your system to run slowly and with a lot of errors; and is a common issue on every single Windows computer. Even now, your PC could have a series of corrupt registry files inside it; making it run worse and worse.

Because Windows cannot fix the registry settings itself, it has to rely on your tools or input to make the registry valid and workable again… and to do that, you can do one of two things:

1. Use “RegEdit.EXE” to edit the registry manually

RegEdit is a program designed by Microsoft to detail the parts of the registry and their contents. The screenshot above shows you the details of the registry and how it’s used to allowyour computer store all the settings and details you need. To open this program, simply search for “Regedit.exe” on your PC and then open it and start browsing.

2. Use a “Registry Cleaner” to automatically fix the registry

Registry Cleaners are designed to clean out the entire registry database automatically. You can just use a tool such as “RegCure” (pictured above) to scan through every part of the registry and then identify & fix 11 separate categories of errors inside the database. You can either try fixing the registry manually (by using RegEdit.exe) or by using a registry cleaner to fix the issues you might find in there… but either way, you really need to be able to fix all the errors that are inside the registry database, in order to make your computer run as reliably and quickly as possible again.
