Making your computer run faster is a big goal that many people have, but one that hardly anyone achieves. This is a problem which even the most technical computer  users are sometimes unable to fix, but fortunately, there are 3 easy ways that any one can make their computer run faster.

The problem most people have is that they are unable to locate and fix the cause / problem that starts your system running slowly. This means that whenever you use your computer, many people are unable to make their system run faster because they don’t know how to fix the core issues that are causing the slow speed. Fortunately, there are 3 simple ways to speed up any PC.

1. Defrag Your Hard Drive

“Defragmentation” of hard drives is a big problem because it makes your computer struggle to open & locate the files it needs to run. This problem is where your system actually saves the files it needs in various different places (known as ‘sectors’) on your hard drive.

Think of your hard disk as a library of file and information, where all your files are books. Whenever your computer uses these files, it’s forever trying to locate them in the library… and defragmentation just means that the books are all mixed up. This happens in EVERY computer and is only fixed by using the “Disk Defragmenter” tool that comes with Windows.

Windows Degragmenter Tool:

The image above shows the Windows defragmenter, which you can access by clicking on START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > DISK DEFRAGMENTER. This tool is very easy to use – you just load it up and press “defragment”. This will rearrange all the files on your hard drive  and allow your system to read them quicker, speeding up your PC.

2. Uninstall Unwanted Programs

Many people install a lot of programs on Windows to make their systems more fun or enjoyable… but unfortunately, many programs end up running in the background and taking up memory which isn’t necessary. You can stop this by clicking on START > CONTROL PANEL > ADD / REMOVE PROGRAMS and then clicking “Uninstall” on the programs that you don’t want / need any more.

Using this applet, you can quickly uninstall any program you want, allowing you to free-up space on your computer and stop the memory & other system resources from constantly being drained. Some of the biggest causes of a slow system are the likes of Skype, MSN, AIM and Norton Antivirus running constantly in the background.

3. Repair The Registry

The registry is a big database which stores all sorts of information and settings for Windows. It’s best described as a “memory” which stores the likes of your latest emails, most recent files and even your desktop wallpaper. It’s a very important part of Windows, which allows your system to keep your personalized settings saved for when you next use your computer.

Unfortunately, the registry database is prone to becoming corrupt and damaged, leaving your PC unable to use it properly. This is a massive problem which causes your system to run slowly, with errors and unreliably. To fix this, you just need to use a ‘registry cleaner‘ to scan through the entire database and remove any of the corrupt or damaged files that are in there.
